Capcom seemingly doesn’t understand memes

This isn’t how things go viral Back in October last year people on the Internet started taking the cast ofFinal Fantasy XV, all sat in a car together, and photoshopping them into funny locations. Square Enix saw what the Internet had organically done and offered up higher resolution assets for creators to work with. Everyone was happy. Capcom apparently saw the part of this where Square Enix gave out high resolution assets for photoshop purposes, but missed the part where the Internet organically agreed it wanted those assets....

CJ names the best games of 2022 based solely on how much he likes the box art

Let’s judge some books by their covers I don’t have a steady history of creating end-of-the-year Top 10 lists for Destructoid because, well, it’s very rare that I actually play 10 games I’d want to write about and celebrate at the end of the year. Such is the life of a part-time games journalist. Most of my free time is locked up playing through games for review, and I think all my reviews for 2022 averaged out to around a 7, which doesn’t exactly make for an exciting,OMGkind of list....

Contra Returns doesn’t completely sacrifice its identity on mobile

Contra Returns impressions I’m getting a pretty powerful sense of déjà vu playing throughContra Returns. Last month, I sat down withMega Man X DiVEand found myself enjoying the franchise’s transition to the mobile, free-to-play format. I thought Capcom did a pretty good job of capturing the essence ofMega Man Xbefore shackling it to the features typical of F2P games. It controls well, the characters all look wonderful, and while it didn’t provide much of a platforming challenge, the game did manage to bring about some joy on my various breaks and lunches....

Crow for iOS looks amazing

Running on Sunside Inc’s in-house platform,Crowlooks spectacular for an iOS title. I’m not really sure what is going on in this trailer, other than that you are a crow and that there’s some gameplay that is reminiscent of the surprisingly solidLegend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoolegame. Graphics of iOS games in particular seem to be making quick strides, so it’s going to be an interesting couple of years to see how it will all pan out....

E3 09: Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes impressions

While at the LucasArts booth, I took a moment to catch a demonstration forStar Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes. It’s a family friendly brawler based on the animated television show and slated to hit every current generation system known to man. As you may imagine, it’s an accessible title. I watched the presenter using one button for the vast majority of action commands and the level I observed was nothing more than an arena for basic enemy annihilation....
