Media Molecule on the challenges of making Tearaway

Earlier this month, I caught up with Media Molecule’s Rex Crowle, lead creator on one of my favorite games of last year,Tearaway. My main goal was simple: to thank him for such a fantastic Vita game. But we ended up chatting aboutTearaway‘s reception, as well as some of the challenges that Media Molecule had to work through to bring us the final release. I also repeatedly told him that they should make anotherTearawaygame....

Neon White might be the most out-there game in today’s Nintendo Direct

Coming to Switch and Steam in winter 2021 Annapurna Interactive is teaming up withDonut County‘s Ben Esposito forNeon White, one of the most double-take-worthy games shown in today’s Nintendo Direct. You’re gonna want to catch the trailer. Set in a world where demonic assassins roam heaven, you’ll zip around 3D zones as fast as possible and grab Soul Cards to fuel your gun, sword, and parkour abilities. Speed and traversal are the focus – the central idea is to use the right cards at the right time to take shortcuts through the obstacle-course levels – but there’s astory, too....

Nintendo Download: Fire Emblem Engage

Now THIS is a good week for the eShop ObviouslyFire Emblem Engageis the game in neon lights this week, as it arrives on Switch on January 20. I’m stoked to see what the overall reception is like, especially coming off of the super-popularThree Houses, which also had some divisive opinions on its heavy slant toward social aspects. Given thatEngagestrips many of those away (and puts a larger focus on the strategic action), that decision is going to also be somewhat polarizing....

NIS’ Firefly’s Diary looks so damn cute

More Vita games please! We’ve seen a few teasers for NIS’ upcoming Vita gameFirefly’s Diary[htol#Niq], but now you can get a better look at the visual style in the above video. It’s a downloadable game by NIS that follows a young girl into a dark world — and no, it’s not a strategy RPG. Not a whole lot is known at this moment, but the art style is intriguing enough to at least give this one a shot — it looks like the right amount of adorable and macabre....

Open-world ski title SNOW is on Steam Early Access

You may want to give it some time, however SNOWcaught my eyea while back. It’s an open-world skiing game that notably uses the CryEngine 3 and strives for authenticity. While it was originally pitched as being free to play, that’s not the case yet — the just-releasedSteam Early Access versionis, at a minimum, $14.99. It’ll go free “later next year,” according to developer Poppermost Productions. I’m glad to see thatSNOWis still alive and well, but after looking at the planned features — snowboarding gameplay, multiplayer, and music — I’ll be waiting for some of those updates to hit first....

Rest in peace, Kitty. –Mr Andy Dixon] [Image credit: SpikyMilkshake] This has been the hardest blog for me to write. Last year, Capcom announced that it had to putResident Evil: Revelationson a 4GB cardinstead of the standard 2GB, causing the price to jump from $39.99 to $49.99. It seems they were successful in that mission, as today they’ve officially announced thatRevelationswill be sold for $39.99.
