Sorry for the unimaginative post title, butFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearershas such a long-ass name that I didn’t have room for any extra words other than “new,” “video,” and “doesn’t suck.” It’s true, though — so far, this game doesn’t look too bad, although other than the requisite inclusion of chocobos and moogles, most of the stuff shown here is going to look pretty weird to mostFinal Fantasyfans. Cactuars growing to enormous sizes as the player is congratulated for a “New Reaction,” bombs and goats being thrown across open fields via telekinesis, and a neon heart-light flying out a pig-woman’s face and into the head of a green-haired child are just a few of the things going on here that are unlike anything I’ve ever seen in aFinal Fantasygame … or any game, for that matter....

Independent developer Retro Affecthas put fortha new trailer for its charming game,Snapshot. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this one — probably not since its Independent Games Festival days back when the visuals looked much more akin toYoshi’s Island. I’m proud to saySnapshothas grown into itself; the new art style better matches the originality of the main “snapshot” mechanic. That, and the music is excellent. We’ll be keeping an eye out going forward....

The Evercade line of consoles and handhelds have been gaining a number of 3D games as of late, including ones initially released on the PS1 and N64. However, there hasn’t been a way to actually play them using a controller designed for 3D navigation, i.e., ones with analog sticks. That’s about to change as the Evercade VS’latest updateadds support for analog controllers. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t own an Evercade VS, so my relief is strictly vicarious....

Somehow, someway, Prima Games has stayed in business despite the growth of free, readily available online guides. It seems the present has finally caught up to the company, though, as publisher DK has announced that Prima Games will be shutting down. While not officially closing until next Spring, the label will not be publishing any new strategy guides for the remainder of this year....

Sony adaptation pushed back by two months Sony Pictures has announced that its upcoming big-screen adaptation of Capcom’sResident Evilwill no longer meet its September 3 release date. The clunkily titledResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon Cityis now expected to launch in theaters on November 24. While no reason was given for the movie’s delay, the original release date would see the survival horror flick collide with Marvel’sShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings....
