Happy holidays to you too! Even though it wasn’t announced when the holiday event kicked off recently, Blizzard is giving people an extra incentive to playOverwatchon Christmas (my wife and I have been playing a bit!). Just yesterday the playerbase was met with a special Christmas message after logging in noting how great of a year it was thanks to fan support, alongside of five holiday loot boxes. There doesn’t seem to be an expiration date for this beyond the Winter Wonderland event expiration on January 2, so you may as well log in and collect your stuff....

Lost Wave Race Easter Egg makes game talk s**t

In what may be the greatest discovery in modern gaming, a deeply hidden Easter egg has been found within the GameCube version ofWave Race: Blue Storm. Yes, the game that was released in 2001. The code (which you can find after the jump) changes the announcer’s voice to a guy who basically talks s**t at you the whole time, along with changing the turbo sound to a little girl who says “meow, meow....

Basically the same as 8 We haven’t seen or heard many details aboutMario Kart 8 Deluxeoutside of some basic facts, but given that we’re nearly one month away from the launch of the Switch, Nintendo is starting to roll that stuff out. Some of it comes second-hand, inferred by press materials, but I’ll take it. In this case, we have information on what the amiibo details will entail, and it employs a system that’s identical to the original game....

Miniboss Monday: Crocomire

Today’s Miniboss Monday is one of my personal favorites and is an extremely memorable fight for many who completedSuper Metroidback in the day.Crocomireis by no means a difficult or exciting opponent to fight, but what makes him so great and memorable? There’s a simple answer to that one — his inevitable death. Ol’ Croco is a fairly straight-forward opponent. All you need to do is shoot missles down his throat when he opens his yapper and he’ll move back a few steps....

Mobile game sales have ‘flatlined’

Aw. Every time I visit Japan, it refuels my hope that the U.S. will someday have a mobile games market that supports the release of the solid, quality titles that Japan sees. It finally seems like we’re getting devices with enough power to run these Japanese-quality mobile titles, but sales aren’t reflecting that. Juniper research says that mobile game sales have “flatlined across North America and Western Europe”. GamesIndustry.bizsays that the market is expected to rise from $5....

New God of War clip re-iterates that every troll is unique, takes a look at loot

Out on April 20 I’m a little more intoGod of Warnow than I was when it was announced. The wholeLast of Usthing really spawned a Dad subgenre, some of which are more effective than others, but recent footage of Kratos’ son Atreus drop-kicking enemies sold me. This new clip from Sony showcases several other elements of the upcoming action romp, including some lore bits and a quick rundown of loot. Some of the latter will be tied to quasi-puzzles, like the age old “collect the keys to unlock the chest” concept....

New Steam data suggests folks dropped Cyberpunk 2077 faster than The Witcher 3

There’s likely a range of reasons for this So,Cyberpunk 2077! I hear crickets and groans. Sorry folks. Night Trap is coming back, baby!

But will the ESRB come under fire? Night Trapis notorious for being one of the few games that brought about the creation of the ESRB. While its content is pretty damn vanilla and very PG rated, apparently its depiction of violence against women was so realistic and encompassing that it was corrupting our youth into repeating it. Clearly that never happened, but history is funny like that. Regardless of the past, Screaming Villains is actually publishing a re-release of the cult classic by way of a remaster for PS4 and Xbox One....

The second question was all about the rising costs of game development, which Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the most important developers and designers in video game history, answered....
