Impressions: Battlefield 4 (Xbox One and PS4)

Far and away superior to the 360 and PS3, with issues in tow Battlefield 4, at launch, was a pretty hectic experience on the PC, but the same can’t be said about the watered-down 360 and PS3 versions of the game. Simply put, the maps are built around the concept of huge 64 player battles, and with a paltry 24-player limit, it turned them into ghost towns. The Xbox One and PS4 editions are attempting full feature parity with the PC game, bringing the count back to a rightful 64, with some enhanced visuals in tow....

KeyWe is such a cute idea for a co-op game

That kiwi has a little parachute!!! KeyWeis way too cute. It’s a cooperative puzzle-platformer about a pair of flightless birds who are trying their absolute best to manage a chaotic postal office and get messages where they need to go. Also, they’re named Jeff and Debra. I can’t cope! They’re so precious. KeyWeis coming to PC and Mac in 2021 “for sure,”according to Stonewheat & Sons, but the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions are stuck in “we hope!...

Mario, Sonic, and other gaming icons have put on some weight

The Famous Chunkies by Alex Solis Outside of occasional gags likeDoughnut DrakeinUncharted 2: Among Thieves, I tend to forget how generally fit most mainstream videogame characters are. Leave it to artist Alex Solis to remind me of that fact with his upcoming art show, The Famous Chunkies, which depicts over 100 pop culture characters — including Mega Man, Fox McCloud, and Princess Peach — as, well, round. “While watching aNinja Turtlesmovie with my daughter, we noticed that despite their strict pizza diet, the turtles could tirelessly fight crime and battle villains,” said Solis....

Mega Man Megamix artist now has a deviantART account

I don’t know how many of you will care about this bit of news, but it involves one of my favorite manga artists, Hitoshi Ariga, and I’d like to try and share some of my joy with all of you. Ariga has served as a graphic designer for various videogames in addition to his work as a mangaka — his output includes aStar Warsone-shot and the manga adaptation ofThe Big-O. However, he’s most well known for his contributions toMega Man, in particular theMegamixandGigamixmini-series....

I’m pumped Picture this, a Wolverine-claw laden tiger of the neon variety and a fire dragon robot that takes after Ryu fromStreet Fighterteam up against Mega Man X — despite the fact that they’re from different games (X3 and X4 respectively). It’s all part of the gimmick of the “X Challenge” mode in the upcomingMega Man X Legacy Collections, which will each have their own set of challenges residing within them....

Need a fix? New N+ trailer will scratch that itch

N+, the remake ofMetanet Software’sFlash-based indie darling, was supposed to be outfor the PSP, DS, andXBLAlast month, but it’s already Christmas, and there has been absolutely no sign of any ninjas flip-floppin’, hip-hoppin’, or skip-stoppin’ across my dual screens. Did you guys know that meth addicts sometimes pick their scabs and eat them to get their fix? Who knew scabs could hold traces of Robitussin and Drain-O? I think that theliquid crackthat Metanet injected straight into my spinal column must work similarly, because this open wound on my forearm is really starting to chafe....

Nintendo: Wii U offers deeper, asymmetrical multiplayer

Nintendo president and unconfirmed soap-eater Satoru Iwata has declared that theWii Ushall host unique and deep multiplayer experiences. According to Nintendo, the differences between the Wii U and Wii controllers open the floor for “asymmetrical” gameplay. Huh. “We plan to release the Wii U system, the successor of Wii, in the year-end sales season of 2012,” said Iwata in Nintendo’s financial report. “Wii U has a new controller named the Wii U GamePad with a 6....

Not even Mario Kart 8 can get people to buy the Wii U

Hot software isn’t moving hardware in Japan Mario Kart 8sold more than 325,000 boxed copies during its opening week in Japan, according to sales tracking group Media Create. The figure was more than enough to top the nation’s weekly software charts, with the runner-up,Mobile Suit Gundam Side Stories, moving 82,000 units. It wasn’t enough to significantly spur sluggish Japanese hardware sales, though. While the Wii U was the top selling console in the country last week, the machine only found its way into 19,000 new homes....

Oculus Quest now has hand tracking

Turn it on in the Experimental Features menu TheOculus Questjust got that much more enticing. With update v12, the standalone VR headset now has motion tracking–a taste of it, at least. The functionality is currently limited to “select first-party apps” (like the browser and Oculus TV) and the Home interfaces (like the Library and Store), but considering hand tracking wasn’t even supposed to launch until next year, it’s a nice early present....

Old School Rally brings the polygons to Early Access on July 19

Astrolabe Games and Frozen Lake Gameshave announcedthat retro-styledOld School Rallyis releasing into Early Access on June 30, 2025. If you asked me to tell you whereOld School Rallydraws its styling from, I’m not sure I could tell you beyond “the ‘90s.” It reminds me ofTop Gear Rally, but that had circuitous tracks rather than linear ones. It doesn’t really look much likeSega Rally Championship, which is generally what I think of when it comes to old school rally games....
