Your almost-Steam Machine, now cheaper

Dell’s Alienware Alpha – also known as the sorta, maybe, not really Steam Machine – gets an official$50 discount todayvia a limited time coupon on Dell. The incentives don’t stop there though, as Dell is also throwing in an additional $50 worth of value in the form of a gift card.

While we’re not sure if this tactic will move units, you’re getting some decent hardware for the price, all things considered.

Looking at the numbers from a few weeks back, we saw some action on Alienware’s Alpha during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend, but sales were light compared to almost everything else. Given that context, it’s no surprise Dell’s tacking on incentives for the remaining holiday season.

The $50 coupon listed above expires on December 15, although there is another $50 coupon for models $599 and up that works until December 24. We’re not sure how long the $50 gift card promotion will last, but we suspect it’ll evaporate the minute the holiday season is over.

Reviews on the Alienware Alpha are mixed thus far, but in our opinion, the hardware for the money isn’t bad, even without the current discount and gift card incentives. If you’re looking for a moderately cheap pre-built gaming PC setup in a small form factor, and you’re fine with navigating out of the so-so Alpha UI to get to Windows 8 when necessary, this might fit the bill.
