According to the number-crunchers over at SuperData,Animal Crossing: New Horizonssold an estimated five million digital copies in its launch month of March. This would not only make it the best-selling console game of the month, but also takes the record for best first-month digital sales for a console game, beating out previous record-holderCall of Duty: Black Ops III.
Obviously,New Horizonsreleased under particularly grim circumstances, as the ongoing COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic has seen stores shut their doors and a global community ordered to stay at home. This undoubtedly is part of the reason why the title has had such a huge sales spike in regards to its digital release. But regardless, it’s clear thatNew Horizonswould have seen the same phenomenal success under normal circumstances, even though the ratio of physical-to-digital sales might read differently.
