Assassin’s Creed Shadowsis delayed again but it won’t lurk in the shadows for much longer. Originally scheduled for aNovember 2024 release date, the game was pushedto February 2025. Today, Ubisoft announced thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowswill be ready (for real) on July 30, 2025.
Following the first delay, Ubisoft called the game “feature complete,” citing issues with the launch ofStar Wars Outlawsas the reason for continued development. The company seemed certain about the new date at the time. Asreported by VGC, Ubisoft’s chief corporate finance officer, Frédérick Duguet, said the game was “close to being launched” and will “come on time with great quality.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is delayed again for extra polish
Ubisoft announced that the latest delay decision was made with a “renewed focus on gameplay quality and engaging Day-1 experiences.” Again, the statement echoes Ubisoft’s take onStar Wars Outlaws, which didn’t quite meet the company’s expectations.
“This additional time will allow the team to better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months and help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positiveAssassin’s Creedcommunity,” Ubisoft wrote in the statement. “The game is now scheduled for March 20.”

The second delay follows a rather tumultuous year for Ubisoft. In 2024, the company made major moves to return to profitability, whichconsisted of layoffsandgame cancelations. Amid news that Ubisoft was looking for abuyer in Tencent, the companydisbanded thePrince of Persia: The Lost CrownteamanddiscontinuedXDefiant ‘sdevelopment. Ubisoft also returned to launching its new gamessimultaneously on Steamon day one.
Ubisoft has had a challenging year, and it’s hard to say what 2025 has in store for the developer. In the statement, the company writes it will continue cutting where it deems necessary. It expects to slim down by about €200 million in fiscal year 2025-26 compared to 2022-23.

“We made good progress on the strategic and execution reviews initiated a few months ago and are confident that this will position Ubisoft for a stronger future,” wrote CEO Yves Guillemot in the statement. “We have taken decisive steps to reshape the Group in order to deliver best-in-class player experiences, enhance operational efficiency and maximize value creation.”
