He contends it’s too closed

[Update:Microsoft’sPhil Spencer has fired backandSweeney seems to be opento a future with Windows.]

When Epic Games talks about anything PC related, I listen. The company has been around the block, and now, its CEO isn’t having what Microsoft is selling with Windows.

By way of a column on The Guardian, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney is calling for an all-out war against the platform, stating upfront, “we must fight it.” Sweeney contends that the shop is as closed as it’s ever been (a frequent criticism of Apple), and that developers who don’t take part in the new Universal Windows Platform tenets can’t access certain features.

His manifestodoes a good job of breaking down exactly why the new system is dangerous for developers and consumers alike, so I suggest giving it a read when you have the chance.

Sweeney even goes a step further and basically makes an ultimatum — “all of the independent companies comprising the PC ecosystem have a decision to make: to oppose this, or cede control of their existing customer relationships and commerce to Microsoft’s exclusive control.”

Well, let’s see how this plays out! It’s the clash of the PC titans.
