‘An alleged abject failure to provide adequate security’
A lawsuit has been filed by an attendee who was present atlast weekend’s shooting incident,that took place inJacksonville, Florida. The tragic event happened during atournament held at a gaming bar, located in popular entertainment district, The Landing.
Jacob Mitichhas filed the claimthrough legal firms Morgan & Morgan and Mehri & Skalet, PLLLC. According to the suit, Mitich “trusted the event host and organizers, and believed that he was walking into a safe space,” when he attended the tournament, held at the GLHF Game Bar. “That trust was shattered when shots rang out in an overcrowded, since-shut-down, non-permitted space.” The document also contains several pages listing violent attacks that have taken place in the same area, which the suit claims shows The Landing to have become “a hub of dangerous, violent and too often, deadly activity.”
The eight-count lawsuit seeks a jury trial and unspecified damages from defendants includingMaddenpublisher Electronic Arts and the GLHF venue. “We are bringing this lawsuit to hold those responsible accountable,” continues the complaint. “To ensure that gamers like (Mitich) are able to get together to pursue their passion without having to fear for their lives.”
Electronic Arts are yet to release an official response to this news. Earlier in the week, the publisher donated the sum of one million dollars toward those affected by the shooting. EA then announced the opening ofThe Jacksonville Tribute, a fund-raising/live stream event to take place Thursday, September 6 to further benefit the victims and their families
