Continuing its goal of ruining PC gaming for everybody except itself, Microsoft has announced that Games for Windows (generally accepted by everybody as a load of old shit) is getting a brand new Marketplace and a more user-friendly interface. Yeah, that’ll stop it being a totally unnecessary poor man’s Steam.Â
Responding to user feedback, Microsoft has reduced the number of steps required to purchase products, and will also start accepting credit cards as well as Live Points. Users will be able to sign in with any Live ID, too.Â
Not only does Microsoft intend to compete with Steam, it’s also set its sights on retailers like Amazon. The new GfW will launch with over 100 games and feature developer pages, as well as display DLC on each game’s individual page.Â
Microsoft is intent on sticking with this thing, despite PC gamers strongly resisting it. Perhaps this Marketplace will give it a boost, but it’s going to be very hard to replace Steam in the hearts of the hardcore PC fan.Â
