When a console has been out for more than a year, you can usually expect a price cut on the horizon. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have had prices lowered since launch, but the Wii laughs at them, keeping its cost and still outselling the pair of them. Nintendo hasno plans to change thateither.

“Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don’t think we are going to need them,” stated Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, possibly while laughing hysterically, shooting off bottle rockets and riding a golden donkey on a floor crafted from naked, writhing 18-year-olds. Just because he could do that, if he wanted.

Nintendo is claiming that its operating profit more than doubled in the past year, and although that fell short of expected targets, who’s really counting when you’re as rich as Nazis? Nintendo is still riding high, with the Wii and the DS currently showing no major signs of slowing down their respective success. If you’re waiting for a price drop on either of those machines, get a chair, for you’ll be waiting a while.
