While the rumors of the death of the GameCube version ofLegend of Zelda: Twilight Princesswere greatly exaggerated, it seems that picking up a copy might be an exercise is futility … even if you’ve reserved one.

Sources indicate that Nintendo has drastically cut back shipments of the GameCube version ofTwilight Princessto many retailers. I was told by one Gamestop employee that they would not be receiving enough copies to fill all of their pre-orders. When pressed, he confirmed that this particular store had 53 pre-orders yet would only be receiving 18 copies on launch day. Ouch.

It seems that the launch of the Wii title and decreased interest in (and order cancellations for) the GameCube title are to blame. While this is understandable, I know for a fact that there are many GameCube owners chomping at the bit to get their hands on Link’s latest adventure.

No word on whether this will affect other territories. What’s the deal Nintendo? Not only could you go out with a bang (let’s not count the January release ofBackyard Baseball 2007), but this could arguably be one of the biggest releases in the life of the console. Don’t let the thirty-nine GameCube owners who still remain down.
