A Namco rarity is joining the Arcade Archives this week, as Hamster reaches deep into its big bag of obscurities and pulls out Japan-only shmup sequelSky Kid Deluxe,now available to download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Released to the arcade market in 1986,Sky Kid Deluxeis was debuted on Namco’s all-new System 86 hardware.Like its predecessor, the simplistic shmup features dogfighting action between a battalion of biplanes. The player is armed with a machine gun for sky-to-sky action, and bombs to take out battleships and other enemies lurking on land....

Coming soon to PC and Mac Dandy Dungeon: Legend of Brave Yamadais certainly the little title that could. After originally launching as a free-to-play app for mobile, where it found a small but thirsty fanbase, it seemed it might be lost to history when it was announced the game would no longer be supported on smartphones. But Onion Games refused to let it die and earlier this year, it ported the game to Switch withan excellent, if pricey, reworking of the title....

Yves Guilemot: ‘On the big brands, we won’t be creating too many more’ Games Industry International recently had a chance to chat with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guilemot, and the topics mostly focused on where the company was headed — and the fate of new IPs. Yves notes that there’s a difference between Ubisoft (who is the “challenger” at 1.5 billion a year), and EA and Activision (who are at 4 billion), and that creating new brands to reach people is the best way to reach that level....

Ok As time went on, certain players opt to skip out on E3. Blizzard has BlizzCon. Now, EA has “EA Play.” Instead of hosting a typical E3 booth this year, EA will have a special engagement from June 12-14 at the Nokia Theater in LA (as well as an event in London). It will be open to the public, and will feature new games and hands-on opportunities. It will still have a [likely hilariously bad] press conference though, which will take place onSunday, June 12 at 4PM ET....

It’s time to d-d-d-d-duel GameCube-era card RPG seriesBaten Kaitosis getting a re-draw, in the form ofBaten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster. Bandai Namco is remastering both the original and its sequel, coming to Nintendo Switch in summer 2023. The card-centric RPG series follows the story of Kalas, an adventurer seeking revenge for his brother and grandfather. The other entry,Baten Kaitos Origins, orBaten Kaitos 2in Japan, takes place two decades prior to the first and follows Sagi, a spiriter with connections to both the Guardian Spirits and the Alfard Empire....

The April 2024 games list is admittedly not as strong as recent months, but it still packs a punch, especially for JRPG fans. At least there’s an indie classic getting revitalized for new platforms!
