Bethesda got a little help from its friend id for Fallout 4

In terms of the gunplay According to a new video forFallout 4, Bethesda sought out some help from its fellow ZeniMax-owned id during the development process. Apparently this iteration is stepping up the gunplay, so id Software was able to help out in that respect. The the developers looked to id for advice from day one, “starting from scratch” with the combat system. WhileFallout 4andNew Vegas‘ combat mechanics were sufficient enough, I’m hopeful of this new shift....

Don’t even bother booting up Destiny for the Crimson Days event

Broken Valentines When Bungie announced the Crimson Days event forDestiny, my heart sunk a bit. I mean the notion is nice, but really, we all know that the Tower makeover is basically just an excuse to sell more microtransactions. “But you can pay for the [insert popular meme here] Drake Dance.” Should I just…uninstall it now, or? Readers have asked when I plan on hanging upDestiny, and I think that time is this week....

Gearbox responds to Borderlands add-on leak

Following yesterday’sleak of story detailsfor the upcoming, unnamedBorderlandsadd-on pack, IGN got Gearbox president Randy Pitchford’s reaction. “There are a few things there,” he says. “But I think it’s like reading a draft of a script for a movie that hasn’t even been announced yet, let alone launched — yeah you might learn something, but it’s not the real thing and it could just drive you crazy thinking about it.” I hope Gearbox doesn’t stray too far away from what the leak described....

Here’s how to turn off Rock Band 4’s Freestyle guitar solos

Viva la scripted solos! Rock Band 4, largely theRock Bandthat you already know and maybe love, has one big change from previous games. That is the Freestyle guitar solo. Its intent is to break away from the traditional and sometimes very tough scripted solos, and get you playing something that makes you feel like you’re actually shredding. It succeeds in that sense. But, those who have spent many a long night playingRock Bandmay find that the Freestyle’s novelty wears off quickly....

Learn how Kratos comes to life in this video

Spoiler alert: his actor isn’t as angry In this new video from Sony, we get a further glimpse into the motion capture process, specifically in regards to how Kratos comes to life in the upcomingGod of War: Ascension. I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t get enough of these mocap videos — I absolutely loved the ones fromDevil May Cry 3(my favorite!) and theUnchartedseries. As for the game itself, however you may feel about the relevancy of the franchise in 2013,God of War: Ascensionislooking great so far, and I can’t wait to see if it topsGod of War III‘s fairly disappointing conclusion....

The (supposedly) last bit ofFallout 3downloadable content is available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace. “Mothership Zeta” beams your Fallout 3 character above the Capital Wastelands and into the belly of a hostile alien spacecraft. Battling to the bridge in order to escape shouldn’t be an issue: Bethesda crafteda variety of new alien weaponsfor players to use. Judging strictly by the last alien blaster we got our hands on in the core game, these new (alien) pups should be packing acolossal— scratch that — an intergalactic wallop....

Obvious: Coulton pens song for Portal 2

Well isn’t this a triumph for Jonathan Coulton — the singer/songerwriter will have a song that will appear in Valve’sPortal 2. Shocking, I know, considering his track “Still Alive” — which played duringPortal‘s closing credits — was a huge success. And by “huge success” I mean it was beaten into our brains repeatedly for well over a year after the game released. I mean, I’m not even angry — I’m being so sincere right now: the song was pretty great the first 10,000 I heard it....
