At least the goals are off the wall
Psyonix is quite literally shifting the pitch forRocket League‘s birthday. To celebrate the game’s upcoming third anniversary since its launch, there’s going to be new playlist with a drastic overhaul to the way the field looks.
It’s a throwback to the origins toRocket League, which is calledSupersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars(SARPBC). It’s crazy that name never stuck. For some really great insight toSARPBCbeforeRocket League,NoClip made a documentarythat details Psyonix’s early days.

One of the chief differentiators ofSARPBCis that the goals weren’t along the back walls of the pitch. Instead, there was room to maneuver behind the nets, kind of like a lacrosse field or a hockey rink. Between July 9 and July 23, Psyonix is bringing that back.
This temporary anniversary field can be found under a separate three-on-three playlist that will go live next Monday. Psyonix also mentions that the ball physics will be different, as theSARPBCball was lighter. These might seem like relatively minor changes, but they’ll seriously mess with players who have hundreds and thousands of hours dedicated to learning how to react to every little bounce. It should be fun and frustrating and ridiculous.

There are some rewards to earn by playingRocket Leagueduring that two-week window. Red balloons are the event currency that’s gained simply by playing. Balloons can be redeemed for anniversary items and golden eggs. The eggs contain random now-retired crate items from the Champions Series crates. It’s not a new set of dedicated crate rewards. Just the old stuff, which means a shot at the much-coveted White Zombas.
