NetherRealm’sInjustice: Gods Among Usis the studio’s next big fighter and of course it’s on display here at Comic-Con,where Nightwing and Cyborgwere revealed for the first time. I got a chance to play as Nightwing, who as it turns out is currently Ed Boon’s favorite character. I think he’s my current favorite too, as his play style makes him the most robust character in the game so far.

Nightwing wields two short sticks for combat, offering plenty of good combo opportunities. Players at anytime can put the two sticks together to create a staff, which will provide players with a better reach. The drawback is you end up losing your speed when using the staff.

Cyborg is the “ultimate weapons guy” as Ed put it, and he really is. Cyborg uses all sorts of projectile attacks, from missiles to even a grappling hook.

The level plays a big part of the experience, and it was pretty funny seeing the Batcave get destroyed due to all the fighting. In one match, Superman ripped off a generator from the ceiling of the Batcave and threw it at me. Then when I got back up he electrocuted me by uppercutting me into the exposed wires from where the generator was. My favorite was when I knocked Superman into the wall displaying all the Batsuits. Some grenades fell from one of the suits onto the stage, which can then be picked up and used as projectiles.

NetherRealm isn’t ready to talk about story details yet, but Ed assured me that the story will explain how Superman is able to punch characters like Nightwing into space, and then slam them back into the ground, without severe consequences.

Mortal Kombathad a nice presence at EVO recently and I asked Ed if they’re hopping for someInjusticepresence at next year’s EVO. He told me that the team is designing the game for as wide of an audience as possible but they’re also keeping tournament players in mind. They’re putting in features advanced players will be able to “dissect, devour, and really sink their teeth into.”

Dr. Doom in Fortnite

I’m more in the “wide of an audience as possible” camp, and likeMortal Kombat, I can see myself having a lot of silly fun with this one.
