Duringtoday’s Nintendo Direct, we got to see a few more details about the upcomingSuper Mario RPGremake. Specifically, we got to see a few new features in the game that should mix things up for those who have memorized the original game.
First up, the way Action Commands work are a little differently now. For example, when you time your attacks perfectly with the requisite button press(es), you can hit the entire enemy party at once. Additionally, as you complete Action Commands, you’ll fill a meter in the bottom left corner of the screen. This will let your entire party carry out a Limit Break-style “Triple Move,” which changes depending on your party composition.Super Mario RPGis basicallyChrono Triggernow, I’m definitely not overselling this feature.

Additionally, you can now go back and rematch bosses as new postgame content. As you’d expect, these extra battles will tune up the difficulty compared to your original run.Super Mario RPGhas a decent number of bosses, so we’ll have to see how much these add to the game.
As an added tease, we can also see Mario using the Shiny Stone in front ofthat doorin Monstro Town. It’s safe to assume that theverySquaresoft superboss Culex will, in fact, return in this remake. I can’t imagine the game without that fight, so maybe this was a given. Still, I’m dying to see how this encounter looks in HD.
