The studio behindRimehas a new majority shareholder. Today, the studio confirms Tencent is now the majority investor in the developer.
Tequila Works is currently working onSong of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, part of a tie-in with Riot Games’ Forge publishing arm. Other tie-ins from that have included last year’sRuined KingRPG from Airship Syndicate andHextechMayhem, a rhythm-runner from Choice Provisions.
With this investment, Tequila Works CEO Raúl Rubio says the studio plans to take the original IP it’s known for to “greater heights.”
“For 12 years, the teams at Tequila Works have passionately crafted high-quality titles that radiated our personal sensibilities,” said Rubio. “But there’s a limit to how much you can grow by yourself.”

Tequila Works has certainly made some interesting projects in the past. Games likeRime,Gylt, andThe Sexy Brutaleare all recognizable and unique, especially in their art directions. With an influx of cash, this hopefully helps the developers at Tequila Works to keep growing.
Tencent, meanwhile, keeps on making moreinvestments and acquisitionsin the gaming space. Itacquired Inflexion Gamesa few weeks ago, and also recently revealed the acquisition ofPolish development group 1C Entertainment.
