I’ll be honest, Daedalic Entertainment’s upcoming adventure gameThe Dark Eye: Chains of Satinavonly caught my eye because of the beautiful handdrawn graphics in the screenshots, and the above teaser video. While the video doesn’t actually tell us much in terms of story or gameplay, it does show that it won’t just be flat 2D graphics you’ll be moving a cursor over. No matter how fancy the HD artwork is in any adventure game, it’s always nice if things move around a little to add life to the environment.
AlthoughThe Dark Eye(Das Schwarze Auge) is claimed to be Europe’s most successful pen & paper role-playing game, I can’t say I could recall ever hearing about it. Not playing pen & paper RPGs might have something to do with that. A quick search reminded me of the PC RPGDrakensang, released in 2009 outside of the German-speaking countries, and the upcomingDemonicon— both of which are set in the sameThe Dark Eyeuniverse.
Whether or not the story of thisThe Dark Eyegame is as good as the graphics look is something we’ll find out closer to the PC game’s release on March 23rd, 2012. No word about a prospectiveThe Red Eye: Chains of Sativaspinoff yet.
