I am extremely here for this game

Keep the chaotic couch co-op games coming. I’m insatiable. This one’s calledTools Up, and it’s about renovating apartments in a “mysterious skyscraper” while trying your best not to get on each other’s nerves. It’s sure to happen with even the most well-meaning of team players, but that’s the fun of it.

Every so often a game comes along that justgets meon a fundamental level. That’sTools Up.

The idea is that you’ll divvy up individual tasks to finish the renovation in record time. Between moving couches, painting walls, laying tile, and demolition, there’s a lot of tasks to take care of and not a lot of room in which to do them. Adding to the chaos, only one player can hold the blueprint at a time. Given that it shows how the final design should look, there’s bound to be communication complications.

“We createdTools Upwith the goal to make the fun couch co-op accessible to players of all skill levels,” said The Knights of Unity project manager Maciej Jaroszewicz. “This is the game you can play with your children or even grandparents.” Curiously, the studio was also behind the digital adaptation ofScythe.

The ghost at the end of the hallway

Along with a standard Party Mode, there’s going to be a campaign in which you’ll need to “defeat cunning AI players through various victory conditions,” and not every level will be a simple fixer-upper. “Expecting ice, fire or puppies? No? Well, you should!Tools Uplevels and environments are rich and varied. Expect different weather too.” Here we go again. Ice levels are my gaming Achilles’ heel.

Tools Upwill touch down on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. For another branch on theOvercookedfamily tree, take a look atMoving Out, a furniture-moving sim.
