Shenmue III and Bloodstained

Crowdfunding platform Kickstarter had a fantastic year on the gaming front. Between video games and tabletop games, more than $144 million was pledged — a figure that almost doubled what was pledged in 2014. Of that, some $46 million went to video games, and two key players made up for approximately a quarter of the funds.

Shenmue IIIandBloodstained: Ritual of the Nightwere the biggest dogs in the yard, as they pulled in $6.3 million and $5.5 million, respectively. Fittingly, they’re also the two biggest Kickstarted video games ever. The 2012 campaign forPillars of Eternityis third, coming in just shy of $4 million.

In a broader sense, 421 projects were successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2015. These cumulatively raked in $46,177,705 across 480,382 backers. Kickstarter is likely thrilled by these statistics, as it takes a five percent cut of funded projects — some $2.31 million in just the video game segment.
