With how punchy the action is intheResident Evil 4remake, I couldn’t wait to dive into professional mode as soon as I could. Here’s a breakdown of what it is, and how to actually unlock it.

Professional Mode is a new difficulty unlocked after you clear the remake once

When starting a brand new run of theResident Evil 4remake, you’ll have access tothe assisted (easy), standard (normal), and hardcore (hard)difficulty settings. These are the only three options available until you clear the game once. After that, subsequent runs can be played on Professional Mode, which is another difficulty divergent to hardcore with some extra snafus.

All weapon modifications will be available from the start

The first two bits are crucial additions, as parrying windows will be much tighter now (which can be the difference between an instant death); and you won’t be able to brute force through some tougher sections without hoofing it back first.

Thankfully, your save files will individually stamp difficulties: so you’ll be able to spot your Professional Mode saves from the pack. The downside is that you need to share all of your difficulty’s saves together.
