However, not all of Roger’s crew made it to Laugh Tale, as Buggy revealed in his recent proclamation to Mihawk and Crocodile.
Buggy’s old dream is resurrected after learning of Shanks’ plan to go afterOne Piece. Held hostage by the two former Warlords, Buggy tried to spur his captors’ ambitions to look for the treasure. In his speech, he stated that despite being part of Roger Pirates, he and Shanks didn’t reach Laugh Tale for “some reason.” That reason is actually revealed during Oden’s flashback.
Buggy fell severely ill as the Roger Pirates were preparing to set sail for the final island, contracting a high fever that rendered him bedridden. Despite his strong desire to see Laugh Tale and find the One Piece, Buggy was physically unable to go.
Being each other’s worst enemies and closest friends at the time, Shanks chose to stay behind to take care of Buggy. He lost the chance to discover what the legendary treasure was, yet he didn’t have a single regret. He told Roger that if they were to see One Piece, they would do it on their own ship. Finally, he is making true to that statement, and so is Buggy.
