TL;DR: it ain’t happening yet

Hoping backwards compatibility might be heading to the PlayStation 4 too?

Talking toEurogamer, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said Xbox’s backwards-compatibility announcement was “surprising” and introducing a similar system to the PS4 – while he’d “never say never” – was “super challenging to do” and Sony “had no plans” to follow suit.

“I didn’t think it was possible,” Yoshida added. “There must be lots of engineering effort. They talked about 100 games, but what kind of games will be included? Is it smaller games or big games? We don’t know.”

“PS3 is such a unique architecture, and some games made use of SPUs very well.”

Though Yoshida didn’t mentionPlayStation Now, any such move would directly conflict with Sony’s shiny (and expensive) streaming service.

Insert a snarky comment about Sony lowering the price for PlayStation Now right here.

Remember, if you participate in Xbox’s Preview Program, you’re already able to select from a small number of 360 titles already available on the Xbox One(if you already owned them on your 360, of course). Everyone else will have to wait until Q3 2015.
