Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIIIis now available for iOS and Android devices in Japan.
The mobile version makes use of streaming technology, offering players a Netflix-style experience where the visual quality and responsiveness depend on the strength of your internet connection.

Other games released this way include the likes of the other twoFinal Fantasy XIIIgames,The Last Remnant,Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence, andThe Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.
Lightning Returnsemploys a free-to-start scheme, but only gives players 30 minutes to enjoy the game before deciding whether to cough up ¥2,200 in order to keep playing.

The role-playing game originally launched in Japan back in November 2013, prior to its worldwide release in February 2014 and therecent PC port, which just dropped in December.
Square Enix andBroadmedia(the studio handling the streaming versions of these games) haven’t announced plans to bringLighting Returnsto mobile platforms in the West. And considering none of other aforementioned titles have been released this way overseas, the prospect seems unlikely.
