Nothing like a little healthy competition

Taking an approach to console gaming not unlike what theOUYAis hoping to do, the GameStick is a small-scale, Android-based console that plugs into your television by way of HDMI. Creator PlayJam is aiming for $100,000 inpledges on Kickstarterto finish development of the device, more than half of which has already been raised on the campaign’s first day.

The system itself is small enough to fit within its controller and has an Amlogic 8726-MX processor, 1GB DDR 3 / 8GB Flash, and runs Android Jelly Bean. While the price sounds about right at $79 for both the controller and console, what about the software support?

“Going forward, we will be calling on the more than 250 developers we already work with on TV to join those that have already committed to GameStick plus anyone else as excited as we are by this opportunity,” writes PlayJam. If these new consoles can garner more quality developer interest in Android, that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
